In the US there are systems in place to help, but in some parts of the world child trafficking goes undetected and unreported. Which children are most likely to be saved?
The most crucial aspect in the recovery of abducted children is the rapid reporting by parents or family.
Alert systems are triggered by parents and family members who know their child’s character and personality and can discern a critical life-threatening situation. Specially trained law enforcement are ready to respond.
The United States now has a system called “Amber Alert” to dramatically increase the chances of finding children who were taken against their will. The AMBER Plan is a voluntary partnership between law-enforcement agencies and broadcasters to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases.
Which children are almost never found?
Most child traffickers target unprotected orphans because there are no family members to defend the fatherless. Predators stalk unattached and helpless orphans in areas of the world that are affected by AIDS, war, landmines and disease.
It is estimated that there are 22,000,000 unattached orphans in unstable societies in the developing “third” world.
